Issue 75 / Winter / June 2016
Hi [firstname]
Welcome to the June 2016 SeedData newsletter.
I trust this finds you well during our Winter.
Many farmers I know take some time to have a break at this time of the year. Although this season has been extremely difficult, I do hope some of you do take the time to have a break.
I don't know a farmer that doesnt work hard and to have a few days of at this time of the year is not only a fair reward for that hard work but also important as it gives you time to recharge the batteries.
In this months e-mail we look at an exciting new app, look at some very exciting new research on Lucerne, and also look at a couple of our clients achievements.
Please browse these topics below:
New app to make "on farm" Health and Safety easier.
As you all will be well aware, on the 1st of April there were some significant changes to Health and Safety that have come into play.
Many farmers I know, as I am in our own work place, are a bit overwhelmed with the ramifications these changes have made.
It's therefore is great to see a new app on the market that will significantly help take the guess work out off and simplify some of the compliance requirements for farmers.
The founders of OnSide have all come from many years involvement with farming at a very senior level, proven successful track records and great interest in Farm health and safety.
Read what they have to say about OnSide:
"Our focus at Onside, is creating a tool that will work for you. We've been listening to farmers, collaborating with health and safety experts and leaders in the rural sector to ensure OnSide meets your needs.
We've built a tool that ensures your compliance with the new Health and Safety Act that came into force in April 2016. We have worked closely with our technology partner, Jade Software, to build a user friendly tool that we know you'll love.
We've only just begun! We're really excited about delivering a platform that continues to make health & safety easy for you."
For more information on this exciting new tool please either go to the app store, e-mail them intheloop@onside.co.nz or visit their web site www.onside.co.nz.

Significant new research applicable to most farmers.
I was recently sent some information on the results of a very interesting trial that has been conducted by Landcare Research in Taupo that will potentially have significant ramifications on the vast areas of light soil types throughout New Zealand.
As all farmers are aware, nitrogen leaching caps are either a reality, or just around corner so to get the results from this trial now is very timely.
The results from this trial show that it's possible to grow a lot of high quality dry matter, namely Lucerne, while still remaining significantly below (in this case the Taupo regions) nitrogen cap.
I urge you to take the time to click on the image below, have a read and watch the video within it I am sure you will find it interesting.

Specialty Seeds clients doing well.
I've always maintained that the clients of Specialty Seeds are typically of a very high standard and people of great vision.
Recently this has been proven to be true and our congratulations go to Michael and Susie Woodward, who won the Share farmer of the year at the recent Canterbury Dairy Industry awards.
They are 50% share milking 1000 cows for Purata Farms and supply Synlait milk. Quick to adopt to new opportunities Michael and Susie were among the first of Synlait milks suppliers to sign up to supply pasture based grass fed premium contract with Munchkin (a US based baby infant formula manufacturer).
We would also like to take this opportunity to wish all the best of luck to another of Purata Farms farm manager's, Althol New, who has been selected to represent the Aorangi region in this years Young Farmer of the year competition that will be held between the 6th and 8th of July with the TV show on the 9th of July.
Althol was originally from Northland and has a Bachelor of Commerce in Agriculture from Lincoln University.
